Northwest Shopping Plaza in Dayton, Ohio, was at eighty-eight percent occupancy when the first Roses department store in the region opened in 2012. This 42,000 square foot discount retail store used space that had long been abandoned after having previously housing a Kroger store. Roses offers “value-priced” merchandise, which includes food, toys, housewares, shoes, clothing, furniture, and beauty products, amongst other things. Ramy Eidi, the CEO of Eidi Properties, the company which manages the Northwest Shopping Plaza, said the occupancy rate had slowly climbed since he took over its running in 2007.
